LIVELIHOOD PROMOTION (FARM AND NON-FARM):::

Promotion of livelihood is no doubt a very vital factor to ensure survival of the deprived and disadvantaged mass without vulnerability to food insecurity, starvation and loss of life etc. More particularly, with its varied range of activities – Badlao Foundation has always stretched a line of link to ensure integrated and wholesome approach towards development of the resource poor people. Basically, developing their skill, promoting their access to and control over local natural resources, accelerating activities related to resource mobilization both from Govt. and Non Govt. sources, developing alliance and coordination among the CBOs and CSOs etc. have been few major aspect that have been kept in view while pursuing livelihood activities at rural level – particularly for people in BPL category and generally for people in socially backward and economically depressed classes.

The organization ventured into Khadi and Gramodyog (hand spinning-weaving & village industries) when it took up work for the rehabilitation of displaced persons of Maithon Dam. And, since then – it has been our core activity in rural areas. However, activities like Khadi & Village Industries promotion, vegetable cultivation, apiary (bee keeping) etc. are undertaken to encourage the empowerment of rural women to develop their skill and earnings. Various income generation activities are undertaken through self-help-groups promoting their activities on thrift and credit. Such activities like Fishery, Goatery, Poultry, Piggery etc. are undertaken to cover poor marginal farmers to upgrade their standard of livelihood. Over the years – with emphasis on Women Empowerment and Economic Upliftment of rural poor women, sustainable livelihood, systems development has always been a critical area for Badlao Foundation to intervene. Women generally do not own/ control the livelihood resources and means of family incomes. On the other hand, they perform majority of functions for augmenting the livelihoods. Organizing the women and streamlining them into credit, thrift, microfinance and production have been a challenge for the development sector. Badlao Foundation successfully implemented the livelihood systems development projects in order to empower the women economically.
