EDUCATING SCHOOLCHILDREN ON AIDS:::

30 high schools of 1 block of Dumka and 4 blocks of Jamtara district were taken for ‘School AIDS Education Program’ that brought a new opening in its effort to create awareness among public and mobilize people from all streams of society to fight against HIV/AIDS.

Principals of all 30 high schools were given half-day orientation on the HIV/AIDS. Resource Persons informed the principals about the need of AIDS awareness program in the schools.
During August-September 2004, the nodal teachers from target high schools were given training in 2 steps. Resource Persons from JSACS and District Hospital trained on AIDS the teachers from 27 high schools.
The trained nodal teachers then taught about AIDS the 2295 students : 1070 girls and 1225 boys.
Teaching material & audio-visuals have been provided to target schools. Pupils also attempted certain questions from learning material.
In all target high schools, awareness activities were taken up by pupils to celebrate School AIDS Day. For the purpose, each school was provided with assistance of Rs. 1100 each.
Survey of high schools was also been done for similar program in Sahebganj and Pakur districts.
